a wind advisory 40-50 for some. stronger up in the hills. oakland 21. this is really holding up the temps. 15 at hayward. sfo offshore at 12. that is a cool direction when it comes off the water at sfo. take 20 degrees off a lot of these temps. there will be 40s and 50s today. tomorrow there will be lots of 30s. it will be sunny that is not the problem. the low that we had a down there. high pressure does not like the low. that is what it is feeling like with this wind. now it does mean warmer for some but not for all. this is a really tricky forecast on the high temps. chilly to mild. it will be breezy all day. the wind will slowly decrease.

78 santa rosa as long as that eastern north wind holds. here is sal. steve, right now there is no bart service according to the bart dispatchers. they are going to try to get service up by 5:00. tara moriarty is out at west oakland station and she is going to have more on what she has learned. but this could mean major problems for you if bart is your way of getting to work again. we're on it. we'll have a live report coming up in just a moment. let's move along and take a look at san mateo bridge. very windy out there. wind advisories for all the  bridges. gusty winds. and if you are driving again on the bay bridge, we also have a wind advisory there. our cameras are shaking pretty well as you can see. as you watch the television. just be careful there. let's go back to the desk. we begin with that developing news this morning. no bart service right now as sal said.

late night computer problems still causing problems this morning. tara moriarty is joining us now from oakland. hundreds of passengers stranded on trains last night, tara. >> reporter: that is right. the trains were supposed to resume at 4:00 this morning. that didn't happen. according to bart officials they would like to get things up and running in a half hour. they say the problem is technical. this is due to a computer glitch. the computer systems and central control are not communicating properly with the track. they are having to manually crank the shifts to route the trains. this effected 19 trains with 500-1,000 people on board. passengers were not happy. >> i have to pay for a cab to get back to oakland right now. the difference is $3.50 on bart or $35 to get in a cab. that is what i'm doing right now. it sucks. >> reporter: stations will be open but the train is not running. you may see some trains running

but bart says it is simply putting them into place staging them. bart says this is an unusual situation but you can arrive at any station and camp out top wait. we are supposed to get an update from bart in a half hour. live from west oakland i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. happening now am fierce wind storm that killed two people has knocked out power to tens of thousands of homes and businesses across the bay area. ktvu claudine wong is also in oakland where cleanup crews worked into the night to remove all the wind blown debris. good morning. >> reporter: yes. i've been driving around oakland and there are trees down everywhere. we are at 36th and martin luther king junior way. you have one tree on this side of the roadway. but if you pan over here there are two more. you can see crews just arrived up there to try to clean that up. we were just up on the freeway

and can show you what it looks like. that is interstate 580 westbound. the cleanup crews are busy. its been hours since these trees came down and its still unclear when they almost get that cleared up but they are working on it now. this storm, this wind event has taken at least two lives. i want to take you around to see where there is more serious incidents. let's take you over to austin and foothill boulevard that is around 8:00 last night the high winds knocked down a power line and electrocuted a man that was standing on the street. that area was roped off for a couple hours as they investigated what happened. we did go by this morning and it is back open. now let's take you over to the area of skyline boulevard and brandy rock way. that is where a volkswagen swerved to avoid debris on the road. the driver was killed. there are two victims again killed by this storm.

and they have not yet been identified. it is going to be a long morning out here. this wind still very strong and again a lot of debris. you are taking a live look up on west street. they are trying to clear that up. it will take awhile. it is blocking much of that roadway as they try to dump it on this roadway. they obviously have a lot of work ahead of them. in terms of more of a mess i mean everywhere we went to be honest various intersections. we know this will be a problem. live in oakland ktvu channel 2 news. a huge wind whipped -- the fire started late last night near soda canyon road and grown to more than 350 acres. it is 307% contained. until reports of any injuries. the sheriff department hassish

eyed evac-- has issued evacuation orders. the red cross -- stay tuned to ktvu for updates all morning long. thousands of people will wake up this morning without power. pg&e called us moments ago with the latest power outage numbers. 20,000 customers still in the dark in the east bay. power is out to about 6900 customers up in the north bay. at one time though close to 20,000 people did not have electricity in sonoma county. the outages is effecting 169 customers on the peninsula and 13 customers don't have power in the south bay. pg&e blaming the winds for taking down power lines and causing some transformer issues and they say it will take hours before power is fully restored. just before 7:30 last night another uprooted tree fell on top of this car on 32nd street and martin luther king junior way in oakland. witnesses say a man crossing

the street was hit by branches. he was taken to the hospital and expecting to billion okay. ktvu viewers is sending us amazing photos. look at this a 100-year-old 60- foot high tree came crash into a cottage at the rear of their home. that happened late last night. everyone is safe but power was knocked out. i want to show you a photo from a viewer tony. a tree fell down in roanoke park taking out a street light pole and blocking roads. that is on the corner of adrian and southwest boulevard. and this photo from michael in vallejo where a tree and branches fell right on top of his car. pretty big tree there.

we would like to see your photos. happening today the holiday travel season kicks into full gear at airports across the bay area. san francisco international expects today will be the busiest day for the upcoming thanksgiving holiday with 130,000 passengers coming and going. 1.2million people are expected to pass through sfo from today through december 1st. passengers are being told to allow extra time to check in and get through the check point. the airport is predicting a 5% increase in passengers over the thanksgiving holiday. the airport advises travelers to check in online. also it allows plenty of time at the airport. ktvu has learned a fourth student will be charged in that case of a white male student accused of tormenting an

african american student at san jose state university. the students and the victims all live in the same suite on campus. the white students are accused of confining the freshman with a bicycle lock around his neck as well as racist taunts and hanging a confederate flag in their living room. >> they hurt this boy. its one of those things they all right him emotionally, physically. >> a diverse group of students marched yesterday in support of the victim. the university has suspended the students already charged with misdemeanor hate crimes and battery by the santa clara county districts attorney office. time is 4:39. a state lawmaker from santa rosa will introduce legislation that would place new restrictions on toy guns. the proposed law comes in response to last month's fatal shooting of 13-year-old andy lopez. a sheriffs office took the teenager's toy gun for a real

ak47 assault rifle. the bill by noreen evans would require fake guns to be painted a bright color to make them easier to spot. the proposal violates the constitutional rights of gun owners. new information on the deadly typhoon haiyan. officials in the philippines say more than 5,000 people have died and the death toll is expected to climb higher. there are signs of progress and recovery. some survivors are rebuilding their homes. food stalls are back open as well. they have centers open for children dealing with the trauma of losing family, friends and homes. officials say it will take months, maybe years to recover. a fundraiser for the 2 million children believed to have been displaced by the typhoon will be held in san francisco. congresswoman anna and jackie spear are attending. today marks 50 years since

the assassination of president john f. kennedy. the city of dallas is mark the occasion with a solemn ceremony throughout the day. that is where president kennedy was shot as his motorcade was passing through. dallas is handling things delicately. >> the city in general was highly embarrassed and ashamed but what made it even worse the city was branded unfairly as a city of hate. >> today's events will include the tolling of church bells, a moment of silence, readings from the president's speeches by historian david and unvailing of a permanent monument honoring president kennedy. time is 4:41. coming up claims of anti- semitism at san francisco state university. the campus celebration that sparked it and how the school's president and student group is responding. and bart officials approve a contract just not the one they already signed.

good morning. we have breaking news. there is no bart service due to major computer issues. bart is still saying they hope to have service restored by 5:00 a.m.. but some are saying now that that may not happen. we'll let you know what happens. we are live at least one of the bart stations but again you may want to make other plans getting to work other than bart for the time being. at 4:45 let's go back to the desk.

that is the sound we will probably hear all over the bay area today. cleanup crews using electric chain saws to cut trees that was blown on to the roadways. this is one in the east bay in the fremont area. last night workers spent several hours removing the mess. strong winds snapped a three and damaged a nearby car. no one was injured. >> it was just splashed through the back window. yeah surprising. >> again that was in the piedmont area. they have experienced similar wind storms over the years but those never caused as much damage as this. time is 4:46. bart union leaders will meet with their lawyers to discuss their next move in their latest contract dispute with management. yesterday bart's board of director voted to reject the

contract. union leaders are arguing the bart contract is legal and are weighing their options. >> do you think this warrants a strike? >> i don't think so. but that is something we have to look for down the road. >> the bargaining team for bart management now admits it approved the medical leave provision without closely reading it. bart's management then signed off on the entire contract. the bart board has approved the purchase of 365 new rail cars to help revive its aging fleet of trains. that is double the amount of new cars bart has ordered since last year. this is footage of a prototype of one of the cars. they will arrive for testing in less than two years. the remaining cars are set for delivery between 2017 and 2021. samsung is set to appeal

the $290 million that the jury ordered it to pay apple. this is a rehearing. an earlier jury had already decided that samsung violated apple patents. samsung said it should only have to pay $52 million. apple want the $380 million. another patent case is scheduled to start in march. fans of the microsoft x-box lined up outside stores across the country. the new x-box one went on sale around midnight. it is the first new consul. that is eight years ago. everybody wearing that x-box green. that bright green. the $500 system includes an upgraded kinect sensor that uses voice control. the x-box one is expected to be one of the hottest holiday gifts and will be in short supply. its available through best buy and target and amazon. i love it.

people went all out for that. president obama will be in san francisco on monday to raise money for the democratic party and push for immigration reform. the president is set to speak at a fundraiser add the sf jazz center. organizers recently cut the price of some of the $1,000 tickets in half. that led to speculation that president obama isn't quite the draw he used to be. democratic activists say there were simply extra seats that became available for the now sold out event. >> great we are able to offer them for folks that want to see the president and want to support him but don't have a four figure event. >> there could be seats available but maybe president obama isn't the draw he used to be in the bay area. >> president obama also scheduled to make an appearance in china town. once again urging congress to pass immigration reform legislation. he is scheduled to speak at a

business round table fundraiser. the wind is blowing out there. i was leaving the caldecott tunnel this morning. and the wind gust blew my car and i was going into the other lane. drivers need to be careful. >> yeah. they do. one of the things you might find yourself in another lane and that could mean a crash and unfortunately we've already had those. one of the things you might want to take talk about is taking the car today. bart is saying they want to get service up at 5:00 but they've had major computer issues over night. what is happening is their switches are not working and their trains are not able to make the right switches on the tracks because of the computer issue. cal train and muni are doing okay but nonbart service for the time being. let's move along and take a look at westbound bay bridge. the traffic here is okay with no major issues. once you get on the span it

will billion busy. this morning's commute is okay on the san mateo bridge. no matter what flag you put up its probably howling in the wind. wind advisories is out. the strongest gust i can see right now is in the caldecott. 63 miles an hour. all around the area around 20- 40. wind advisory is out. stronger up in the hills. this will continue for awhile. some areas not that bad. others that is pretty howling conditions. 55 petaluma. gusts to santa rosa. fairfield 46. half-moon bay 44. 36 at livermore in the last hour. oakland hills 63. fairfield 31. napa 22. i did not see as bad closer to town. oakland 21.

the toughest forecast are the lows. if the wind stops they will collapse. that probably won't be until tomorrow morning. so it will be in the 40s and 50s. there is our low down in southern california. its a whopper because its there. high pressure to the north. 25 tahoe. 50s and 40s again. the coldest temps will start tonight. it will be sunny today. that system continues to march slowly. wind advisory strongest gust in the higher elevations. it will be a breezy, blustery day but not as windy. if windy, sunny that is for sure. chilly to mild. there are some brutally

forecasted temperatures today. if that north wind holds some areas like santa rosa is 78. napa 76. oakland 70. yet livermore 65. san rafael 75. this is all wind dependent. the lows will be falling off the table especially on sunday as that wind decreases and increasing clouds on tuesday. >> that is the thing i often say though. it would be nice if it wasn't for the wind. 4:53 is the time. we continue to watch the high winds across the bay area. the damage it caused over night and the work ahead for crews. and new information surrounding the 49ers first season in santa clara. why fans won't be able to attend any monday night football games.

breaking news we are following. no bart service today. this is pictures from the west oak lands station. parking lot officials said there is a major computer issue. and they cannot run trains for the time being. they are hoping to have service by 5:00 a.m.. but that may not happen. but for sure there is no, ma'am bart service -- there is no bart service travel now. we'll let you know what happens. right now there are no bart trains. we'll have a live report from the bart station at one of the bart stations coming up.

certainly going to effect the morning commute this morning bart and also this. trees all over the roadways. we are watching scenes like this throughout the bay area this morning. winds uprooting trees damaging property. a 50-foot tree busted a fence and blocked the intersection of jackson and fifth street. that is in oakland's jack london square area. a wind advisory is in effect until 10:00 this morning. time is 4:55. a car break down on the bay bridge could lead to hours long wait if you wind up in one specific parking lot. some drivers report a more than five hour wait at the tow truck. cal tran says a wait that long -- >> sometimes the dispatchers may want to know the street address and some may not know. >> cal trans is recommending drivers call 511 to request

freeway assistance for a tow after being stranded on a toll bridge. there are reports the san francisco 49ers won't be playing any monday night games. all the home games will be on sundays. stadium workers want a year to work out the kings and plan to have monday night football games by 2015. coming up in our 5:00 hour powerful winds causing major problems all across the bay area. we'll have live coverage from some of the many troubled spots. also we are following another big story this morning. no bart service. you need to know that. until further notice. we are expecting an update at any moment. southbound 680 traffic is going to be okay. but the roads are going to be kind of a challenge because of gusty winds. two days ago rain was a big story. last night and this morning wind is a big story.
